Shah Rukh Khan is ‘excited’ to kickstart IFFI 2017, feels it’s a great platform for the finest films from across the globe
While the controversy around IFFI continues, Shah Rukh Khan is ‘excited’ to kickstart the film festival
The 48th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), one of the oldest and most prestigious film festivals, is all set to take place between November 20 to 28 this year in Goa. And who better to kickstart it other than Shah Rukh Khan? King Khan is going to inaugurate the festival on November 20 with an official welcome address to all the delegates from across the globe. And looks like the superstar is quite excited about it! As he mentioned in a statement, “It’s an exciting time for world cinema and especially Indian cinema. It’s wonderful that our country has opened its doors, with the International Film Festival of India, providing a platform to showcase some of the finest films from across the globe. As IFFI gets into its 48th year, I look forward to inaugurating the festival and celebrating what I regard in many ways as the future of cinema. I would also like to extend a warm welcome to all the delegates to India, with open arms, as only we Indians can.”
In the meantime, we hear Amitabh Bachchan (who had also inaugurated the festival a few years ago) will also be awarded the Personality of the Year during IFFI 2017. Apart from Shah Rukh and Amitabh; Karan Johar, Huma Qureshi and several top stars will be attending the films festival. However, while everyone is eager to witness IFFI, the controversy surrounding it refuses to die down. After the I&B (Information and Broadcast) Ministry refused to screen S Durga and Nude, several jury member of IFFI 2017 including Sujoy Ghosh and Apurva Asrani resigned. A petition has also been filed against this decision.
