Sara Ali Khan CONFIRMED to be a part of Varun Dhawan’s Coolie No. 1 – read details
Sara Ali Khan will essay the role originally played by Karisma Kapoor, in Coolie No. 1 adaption opposite Varun Dhawan.
BollywoodLife had exclusively revealed that Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan will team up for Coolie No. 1 and now this cast has been confirmed by the film’s writer Farhan Samji. Writer Farhad Samji confirmed that Sara is a part of the film and he is happy to collaborate with her once again, after the success of Simmba. After Judwaa 2 and Main Tera Hero, filmmaker David Dhawan is teaming up with his son and actor, Varun Dhawan, for the third time to revisit Govinda starrer Coolie No. 1 and present it in a different way to the audience. While Varun was already on-board for the project, rumours about Sara Ali Khan being cast opposite Varun have now been put to rest.
Samji, who has penned the dialogues for David’s project, told Mumbai Mirror, “It is a boon for any writer to work with a dedicated actor like Varun. I narrated the dialogue draft to him recently and he immediately asked me for a copy, so he could rehearse his lines even though there is still time for the film to go on the floors. I am looking forward to teaming up with Sara for the second time.”
The writer went on to add that this film is neither a remake nor a sequel. Farhad, who is basking in the success of Rohit Shetty’s directorial Simmba, cleared that this project is more of an adaption in a new format. He added that the film has been written keeping the sensibilities of today’s audience in mind.
And while they are yet to decide the locations to shoot, Farhad revealed that the Varun Dhawan-Sara Ali Khan starrer will have plenty of humour, colour and larger than life songs. The film, which will be mounted on a big scale, is expected to roll in the month of July.
Talking about the original Coolie No. 1, which released in 1995, it starred Govinda, Karisma Kapoor, Kader Khan and Shakti Kapoor in lead roles. This film had earned Govinda, performer of the decade award, at an awards ceremony. Interestingly, Coolie No. 1 was one of the first successful films of Karisma Kapoor.
Coming back to David Dhawan’s adaption of Coolie No. 1, it will be interesting to see how Varun and Sara stun the audience with their acting chops.
