Taan

Taan is a Bengali Drama film directed by Mukul Roy Chowdhury and produced by Surajit Hari and Subrata Das. Ritupama Sengupta and Sumanto chatterjee plays the lead roles.

                                       This film is based on the story ‘Jalbeshya’ by Bangladeshi author Al Mahmud is centered around the lives of womens in remote areas and traffickers who approach them. Taan is a women centric film dealing with an entirely different subject. Though this subject has some short appearances in many films it is the first time the subject becomes a lead story of a film. It deals with Water prostitutes or Jalbaishya who live in the remote areas of Sunderbeans and are abducted and are3 exploited by traffickers.

                                        The film is a sign board to all especially to authorities who turned their back to them . It reveals their sorrows, helplessness and further more their quench for life. Ritupama plays one such prostitute who like a queen among the clan and has many admires. Deebala dutt and Rituparna have performed well in this film. Cinematography is praiseworthy and it is one of the very few films to have been shot in the Sunderbeans.
