Salt Mango Tree

Salt Mango Tree is a Malayalam comedy drama film of 2015 directed by Rajesh Nair. A team of three, Abeesh V P, Roshen chittoor and Shajoon Kariyal produced it. The film stars Biju Menon and Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli in lead roles. Suhasini Maniratnam, Pris Laxmi, Indrans, Sarayu and Sudheer Karamana  are appearing in supporting roles. The title ‘Salt Mango Tree’ is inspired by the Mohanlal starrer film ‘Doore Doore Oru Koodu Koottam’.

Salt Mango Tree discloses the story of an ordinary family with in the concept of modernism. Aravindan TP (Biju Menon)  and his wife Priya (Lakshmi chandramouli) are always quarrel to each other on the education of their child. Priya wants to send their child in the best English medium school in the town. Though Aravindan is the owner of a medical store, is reluctant to spend money on the education of their child. But on the other hand Priya who is very conscious about the future of the child argue constantly with Aravindan and finally he has to surrender to the  demands of her wife. But the twist of the story stars there after. Priya’s brother working in Germany comes to their home with his wife and priya learned some new lessons from them. How did they influence Priya and family by their arrogant, stubborn, but loving nature is the rest of the story.

The film received many positive reviews. But, as I mentioned early in the previous reviews, this is the period of comedy films in Maalayalam and too much of everything means no value is given to it. All such films fate is same and last ended in a flop. The film conveys some relevant social message that serves as the main plus point of the film. The desire of the grandparents to be with their grandson, the story of a scientist, who doesnot look after his parents and the message to love one’s own mother tougue etc.., all constitute good social message to the present society. Biju Menon, after started to perform comedy roles has done a lot and in this film the director tried to exploit him to the maximum. His performance as a happy go lucky husband in this film surpassed all his past films and it offers a great moment of humour in the theatre. But the story is lagging sometimes and the predictable ending provides no excitement or suspense to the film. Lakshmi Chanramouli tried to proceed  within the limit but couldn’t contol some spill overs here and there. But as a whole it is a watchable family entertainer movie of this year.
