Pinku

Pinku is a Bollywood comedy drama film of 2015 Starring Deppika padukone and Amitabh Bachchan in lead roles. The film is directed by Shoojit Sircar and production part is done by NP Singh with two more others. Irrfan Khan, Moushumi Chatterjee and Jishu Sengupta portays supporting roles.

Pinku unfolds the story of a loving daughter and her father who is a man of hypochondriac in nature. Both are over anxious and ill-tempered in nature but becomes realistic at the end. Pinku as the protagonist is called (Deepika padukone)  works as an architect in Delhi. She lives with her father, Bhaskor Banerjee (Amitabh Bachchan) Who has moved from Kolkatta after retirement. After coming to Delhi Pinku noticed some drastic change in his behavior and he become very possessive and told to everyone that his daughter is not going marry anyone and love to live with him till their death. Bhaskor was a chronic constipation patient and suffered a lot because of that. He always find relief by telling the truth and discussing the matter with everyone he meet. His daughter was also accustomed to that behavior and by living with him she also had obtained some annoying, irritating behavior. It is her habit to quarrel with her cab driver always noticing some minor facts in their travel. So most of the taxi drivers wanted to avoid her, on their travel. Pinku had a  close friend, Syed in her company and Basker didn’t like her daughter in company with other co-workers in the company. Once he openly declared in front of her collegues that her daughter is very temperamental and not a virgin. But as she knows him very well she didn’t oppose it. The twist of the story starts with their plan to visit their home land in Kolkatta. Baskor cherished the memories of a brilliant past and were eager to go their again. But his ‘disease’  was a major hamper before them and Basker was against travelling by plane or train. So they decided to go the long way by taxi. There were 1500 km journey to reach kolkatta and none of the taxi drivers knowing Pinku were not ready to travel such a long distance with her. At last Rana Chaudhary, the owner of the Cab company himself decided to go with them to kolkata. During the journey Rana Chudhary gave good company to the daughter and father and he could study them close than ever. He also started to keep a close relation with them and some of his guidance changed pinku’s concept of life altogether. Baskor compelled Rana to stay there with them for some days and they enjoyed the magnificence of Kolkata together. Then suddenly an unexpected shocking incident took place and Pinku took some days to recover from this. What was that shocking incident? Could Rana save Pinku from this crisis? The story moves to an interesting but at the same time heartbreaking climax.

The film received many positive comments from critics and at the box office it was registered as a super hit. The film showed many realistic moments with a father and daughter and as a common man Amitabh filled the screen. Many dramatic comedy scenes in the film is quiet fanstastically directed and give us some laughing moments in the theatre.  The chemistry of Pinku and Rana is majestically drafted and executed and the scenes after Bhaskor’s death fills the story with many emotional momets which may be so mourning and make you weep. Those scenes are nicely shot and the film brings fame to the director Shoojit Sircar. Amitabh Bechchan delivers an outstanding performance as a father and  Padukone proved her mettle once again by acting her emotional scenes better than ever. I wish to conclude this review with a quote from  CNN-IBN which follows as : “ Pushes the envelop fartherst, giving us a fully flesh-and blood modern woman. Unembarassed to admit she has sexual needs, unafraid to pursue a casual relationship with a colleague, and never shy of snapping back at her patience-testing father, Pinku is a refreshing character in the movie”.
