Mr. Fraud

Mr. Fraud is a Malayalam Action-thriller film written and directed by B.Unnikrishnan. AV Anoop produced the film under the banner AVA productions. Mohanlal Plays the lead role with Dev gill, Mila George and Siddique.

Mohanlal plays the role of a conman who is actually a robber whose main job is to plunder the treasure of others. The film begins with a flashback which tells the story of a royal family. The family members quarrel each other for the treasure of their ancestors. They quarrel severely and as a sign of danger the prism situated in front of the deity breaks up to pieces. All of them frightened and they sought the help of the fortune teller and on his advice they sealed the cellar for 41 years. The two brothers-Ravindra Verma and Mahendra Verma and their sons are actually the heirs of the treasure.Though a robber Bhai ji (Mohanlal) is good at heart and he decided to stop robbery after a big one, to lead a good life. One of his friend Nikki told him about the treasure and offered him 500 Cr. to loot it and he decides for the same. Knowing all the details about the family and their history he disguised himself as a person send by court to estimate the value of the treasure. He took the confidence of all especially Rajashekara Verma. Bhai ji understood that it was a difficult task to loot it and after a long search find a secret path to bring it outside. As promised Nikki had agreed to pay the remuneration but he was in hand with one the member of the royal family and they were deceiving all. Bhai ji knows all treachery of them and punish them. Mean while Rajashekhara Verma’s adopted daughter, who was raped by some goons were actually a good girl and were under construction of a school. Bhai ji had witnessed this rape scene but couldnot help her. He asks pardon for that. The story ends with a happy note.

Any film from Super stars whether it is Mommootty or Mohanlal, the expectation of the people especially their fans are high and if they find that their expectation was not fulfilled it affect the future of the film very much. Like Mommootty’s Gangster Mohanlal’s Mr. fraud also face the same problem and after the initial pull it disappears from the theatre. It received negative reviews more and the film failed in all fields of direction, story, screenplay and cinematography. No one wish Mohanlal to act in such a role and with this complex, elaborate story the director try to make the hero a super genius and it is sorry to say that he utterly failed in his attempt.I conclude the review with a quote of Aswin J. Kumar from The times of India: “Mr Fraud is not at all such a tedious watch with its luxuriant display of gadgets, air-screen projectors and dialogues resonant with technical terms. The fight and chase happen with the accompaniment of dry-leaves propelled away with vigour, but certainly not as unbearable as the tiring song-sequences which offer no mercy for ears. With a rather flimsy premise, the film is presented in a grand scale, but it is evident that the opulence is limited to some colourful garments, swanky cars and technical gimmicks”.
