Margarita With a Straw is an Indian drama film released on 17 April 2015 in Bollywood. This is a many  awards winning film of last year and it was displayed allover the world and staged on many theatres before a large audience. The renowned film was directed by Shonali Bose and produced by her with Nilesh Maniyar. The much appreciated cinematography was done by Anne Misawa and Mickey McCleary did the music. The film stars Kalki koechlin in lead role with Revathy plays as her mother.

The story of the film Margarita With a Straw unfolds the most intimate physical and emotional needs of a Cerebral palsy person. Laila, who is a cerebral Palsy patient, is the only daughter of her mother (Revathy) and are good at studies. Now she is studying at Delhi University and she is also famous as a poet and electronic code writer for a band troop. By writing and involving in cultural activities she tried to forget about her disease and music was one her best weakness. She loved the lead singer of the band troop but was rejected by him owing to her illness. She slowly overcome the situation and got a scholarship to study in New York University. She went to USA with her Mother and the life there changed her altogether. She had developed some relation with her collegues there and among them were boys as well as girls. She had loved and experienced new levels of sexual life and she understood that she loves girls than boys. During her stay there she meets a blind girl of Pakistani orgin and fell in love with her. But her mother, ignorant of these things once invited her girl friend to India and they spend some time at Delhi with the family. During the stay with them the mother discovered some secrets of her daughter and it was really a shock to her. At last Laila tells all the truths to her mother and what happens next builds the rest of the story.

This is regarded as a masterpiece work of the director Shonali Bose and the film received many national and international awards from various agencies worldwide. The film had got its entry at TIFF-Toronto, TBNFF-Estonia, BFL-London and are some of them. It was the only Indian film to get an award at TIFF last year. Kalkochlin won the Best Actress award for this film at the TBNFF at Estonia in 2014. The innovatism he brought into the film gave it a colorful atmostphere and it largely displays the emotional needs of a girl who is on a wheel chair. Though she was brutally rejected by her first lover the rejection must have prompted her to revenge it by loving many girls as well as boys and starts her journey of sexual discovery. She loves Jared and khanum at the same time and thus proves herself as bisexual and finds joy by surfing some sites at internet. she even scolds her mother, who is everything for her, but does not like to interfere in her personal life. The film clearly depicts the mental and physical emotions of a patient on wheel chair, which most of them dare not to reveal and open for a discussion. But I think She did all this because she were rejected by her first lover. Her mother who was her moral supporter did only know it very late and couldn’t correct her in the beginning. The moral side of the rare behavior is not discussed in this film and It in that way gave a wrong social message to the society. But the care and attention one needed at this stage is celearly revealed in this film and the courage shown by Laila to reveal her real life to her mother is really represents the actual mind of a girl with certain emotions to fulfill. In short Laila is a charming and talented rebel on a wheel chair.
