Main aur Charles tells a story from real life of a criminal minded, ‘the serpent man’, Charles Shobhraj. The film confirms the fact that why he was called ‘the bikini killer’. Charles Shobhraj was of French and Indian origin who ridiculed the highly guarded Indian prisons and easily escapes from the Tihar Jail, where high security was given to hardcore criminals. It was actually a death blow at the head of Indian Jail authorities. How he escaped from the jail is still a secret, but the hands of some big guys behind his escape, is a street gossip. This film gives a full descriptive story of him with detailed description and the circumstances that lead him to such crimes and his love affairs with some prominent ladies. His mysterious nature, charming charisma attracting the ladies, all are well picturerized in the story. The perspective view of Commissioner Amod Kanth (Adil Hussain) is given importance here in this film.
The film received many positive reviews and was a hit at the boxoffice. It is still running successfully in packed houses across India. The film takes us back to early 80’s and the social and cultural inspection of that time is displayed very well. Though he was an underworld don his erotic handsome nature attracted many ladies towards him and for them he was an actual hero with all high-qualities of a gentleman. But to them also he exhibit his cruelty and killed some of them Brutally. Prawaal Raman, the director has done a good job and he reinstate his talent as a good director. On performance Randeep Hooda and Adil Hussain surpasses all and Richa Chadda and Tisca chopra have made only an average effort to accomplish their characters. Some scenes are more moronic in nature and only have a little or no relation with reality. But the cinematography and music is actually a bless for this film and served as plus points.
