Lingaa

Lingaa is a Tamil action drama film directed by K S Ravikumar. Rockline Venkatesh done the production and music is done by A R Rahman. Rajanikanth appears in dual roles with Jagapathi Babu, Anushka shetty and Aonakshi Sinha in supporting roles. Though make in Tamil dubbed versions releaded in Telungu and Hindi. Another anecdote related with the film is that it was released on 12th Decmber 2014 coinciding with Rajani’s 64th birthday. The story of the film is related with a dam in the village of Solaiyur where some misfortunes happened along the premises of the dam including a death. Now the dam is under PWD department and they are very careless to look after it and for years no ‘pooja’ is done there to please god Shiva. So the people decided to do the ‘pooja’ but everytime they found some hindrance which prevent the pooja. The dam was built by Maharaj Lingeswaran years ago. So decided to bring anyone rfom the king’s family to lead the pooja. They found the grandson of Maharaj and his name is Lingaa. (Both are Rajanikanth). Lingaa cursed grand father always for making their life such miserable. He had heard that once they were very rich and The Maharaj himself made them poor by his extravagant behavior. So now he is having his income by doing some mischievous things along with his friends like burglary and stealing. When the villagers approached him to lead the pooja he was reluctant to come but their intensive appeal changed his mind and with a bad intention he agreed to come with them. The core of the story starts from there and the intelligent Lingaa understood the real problem and realized the effort took by his grand father to build it. He found many enemies before him including a minister. They had their own intentions to carry out and planned to destroy the dam. Will he be able to preserve it for the people? Or can he brought into light all the hidden agendas of the leaders?

The film was recived in a cool manner and since it was a big budget project a simple revenue was not enough to meet the cost. In some areas of Tamilnadu itself the film was a super flop and the distributors are sruggling to meet their cost. Later it is heard that the super star himself will help them to reduce their loss. Though the film was based on a theme the director failed to make it a success and to present it in that manner to take the audience in hand. The film is filled with Rajani Style and in view of an actor his performance was super. But the repetition or lack of innovativeness might have caused its failure. In the film both the female characters are under the shade of the superstar and nothing to do with the film. Music by A R Rahman also disappointed the fans and the high expectation of the fans and supporters were one of the major reason for its failure. But at the same time it points out one important thing that, during the reign of Maharajas they served the country with whole heart and there was no such corruption prevailed as now. Now a days leaders are seeking their safety and future and for that they use common people and public property as they like.
