Lailaa O Lailaa
Lailaa O Lailaa is a much awaited action-thriller Malayalam film of 2015 starring Mohanlal and AmalaPaul. The trailer it self was received warmly among his fans, but failed at the box office to make any action. Besideds mohanlal and Amala Paul, Satyaraj Sreerag nambiar, Rahul Dev, Joy Mathew and Kainaat Arora appears in supporting roles. The veteran Joshy is the director and Santosh Kottayi produced it in association with two more others.
This said to be romantic action thriller movie tells the story of a guy who is leading a secret life before the public with out revealing his identity. Mean while he makes love and marry a stellar looking lady. She finds his identity and helps him a lot in his attempt. Jayamohan (Mohanlal) is a business tycoon living in Banglore. Actually he is an intelligence officer and as a policy of his department he hides all these details and do his duty secrertly. But during his investigation he come across with a girl, Anjali (Amala Paul) and he liked her smartness. Their series encounters made them close each other and within notime they fall in love. Jayamohan’s comedy and gestures were liked by her and they got married soon. Jayamohan didn’t reveal his identity even before his wife and his deeds made her suspicious. Later she found out his real identity and considering her braveness incorporated her also in his investigation. The twist of the story starts from here and as they move forward they have to face many unexpected challenges. Your anxiety will be at the top when you see that it is Satyaraj, who is appearing as the villain. They were at risk of their life but were not cowards to retreat in the middle. The rest of the story tells in detail the adventurous challenges they faced and how they overcome them all.
Upon release the movie received mixed and negative reviews more and was not a success at the boxoffice. The expectations of the fans and viewers were very high and when they make out, nothing special as it advertised there in this film. The chemistry between Mohanlal and Amala Paul, which was a super hit in ‘Run Baby Run’ didn’t work here and the slow pace and failed punching dialogue delivery, poor cinematography, all contributed heavily on its collapse. Till the first half the film travels through a perod of 1980’s background and after that suddenly it switches to a style with over action, chases and thrilling dialogues similar to an action Tamil film. The outdated comic scenes by Mohanlal make some moronic situations and every now and then he misuses this chace which were really a blessing to him previously. We can’t belive that such a poor edited, scripted film is the product of veteran Joshy. As an actor Mohanlal did a brilliant performance but as a film it failed in its very basics and the climax is only a predictable one from the beginning itself. Keeping too much secrecy regarding his profession even from his wife seems unrealiable and thus lead to some unnecessary childish scenes which wouls have been avoidable. I wish to conclude this review with a quote from Nowrunningcom : “ Lailaa O Lailaa is a sparkles action caper that digs through implausibly convoluted cinematic clinches to narrate a tale that seems to scoff at us for being told. Of the many bullets that are fired in the film, none remain engraved in our memory as much as the colossal style-over-substance misfires from scenarist Suresh Nair who has Penned this massive fiasco that fillingly qualifies as a foggy snoozer”.
