Koothara

Koothara is a Malayalam mystry thriller film directed by Srinath Rajendran. Shahul Hammeed Marikar Produced the film and it is written by Vini Vishwa Lal. Gopi Sunder done the music of the film. Mohanlal With Bharath, Sunny Wayne and Tovino Thomas played the lead roles.

This the story of three students (Sunny ,Tovio and bharath) who gathered together in a college hostel of an engineering college. Three came from different situations and background. One is from a village having simplicity and less active in mingling with others and try to attain his goal of his parents. He actually hesitated to try for the goal but her parents compelled him to attain it. The second one very mischievous and is always behind girls he also have joined there to fulfill the dream of him and his parents. The third one is more vigorous than others he is very proud of his wealth and always lead others to wrong things. They made many problems in the college and the principal had warned them many times. In the middle one of them had a relation with a village girl who is very timid and calm. The calmness of her attracted him to her. But their actions against the discipline of the college made in their dismissel from the collge. Then come the twist. As a wellwisher of them, a mysterious man (Mohanlal) came from nowhere in ill-fitting wigs and an ugly dress with a lamp in his hand.He advice them about morality, social awareness, integrity, unitedness and more on their identity and their aim in life. But Who was the wellwisher? What was his aim? Did he succeed in his attempt? rest of the story deals all with it.

The film received mixed response from the filmworld. No one still dind’t understand the need of such character performed by Mohanlal, was it necessary?. From critics also it received more negative comments and it was a flop at the boxofffice. The first half is flooded with useless antics and absurd love tracks with random characters and pointless scenes. The behavior of girls in this film is third-rate and is unbelievable. They treats their lovers as their preys and after using them for their personal games go for another!. Is it a story related with the background of an engineering college? More over the apperence of Mohanlal in this film, his style, words and teachings are all moronic in nature and can’t find any influence on the audience. The film crew failed in using Mohanlal’s carisma in this film in a useful way and that is the main reason for its failure. I wish to conclude it by quoting a part of the comment of Times of India about the Film: “ Koothara boasts of a daring, the same feeling that prompted the film to carry such a title, often used with revulsion. None of the female characters - there are plenty of them - linger, they appear and disappear like bubbles. It cannot be called an enjoyable movie despite a rich verve of youthful energy that is pumped into it. Often it is low, degrading and utterly disappointing rarely eliciting any real laughter”.
