Komban
Komban is a super hit Tamil action movie of 2015 released on 1st April in all over India. M Muthaiah directed the film and the film was produced by Studio Green. The film features the young super star Karthi in lead role with Lakshmi Menon. G V prakash Kumar composed the music.
The film unfolds the rivalry story of three villages who wants to elect a person from their own village as head. But the emergence of a ‘good villain’ gave them sleepless nights and how he win them constitute the centre of the story. kombaiah Pandian (Karthik) is a local rowdy who finds happiness in shooting away thugs and people those disturbing the peace of his locality. Though regarded as a rowdy he is actually a hero doing only good to the society. His moral policing is in a way serves as a shield protecting the villages from goons and robbers. But there also he finds one man, Muthaih and his daughter, Palani (Lakshmi Menon) who seem to be wicked, but are sincere in their way with a firm faith. He quarrels with him at first and later repents and understands the value of the term ‘father’. By mean time he married Palani and develops a healthy relation with her father. Muthiah influenced him much to develop a new perspective outlook towards his social outlook. The twist of the story starts from a point where Kombaiah unfortunately and unexpectedly starting work for Gundan Ramaswamy. Who was Gundan Ramaswamy? what was his hidden ajendas in adjoining him in his group. could Komban could escape from his trap in time? The rest of the film tells the answers and quench your thirst of anxiety.
The film recived mixed reviews from the critics and since it was a big budget action thriller starring karthik, the expectations of the audience was at its zenith from the release of its trailor. This one man army film by Karthik, fighting against injustice in the society, failed to conquer hearts of the family audience. But his hardcore fans and the young generation of Tamilnadu make the film a success. The performance of Karthik as an aggressive, short-tempered youngster was stunning and his engaging dialogue with punch convulsed the theatre. the music of the film added an advantage to it. The emotional scenes with Palani and Muthaih increased his star value and proved his talent to handle any role in a simple manner. Thambi Ramaiah’s presence is actually a relief in the middle of never-ending violence and thrilling actions. The similarity of the story with many films is not a secret and karthik himself has carried out such roles in his previous films. I wish to conclude the review with a quote from review of The times Of India as follows : “ The problem, though, is not the similarity of the characters or predictability of the plot, but the lack of real excitement in most of the scenes… The film hums along, moving from one scene to the next, without really making much of an impact in the viewer”.
