Hrid Majharey
Hrid Majharey is a Bengali romance/love/tragedy film written and ditected by a debuntant director Ranjan Ghosh. We can see certain iconic Shakespearen influence in this film. The casts of this film are Abir chatterjee and Raima sen.
It tells the tragic love story of a Maths professor and a trainee cardiologist. The story begins with an incident and goes foreward to a flashback and we see the reason behind such a tragic end. Abhijit, a maths professor who was already advised not to fall in love with anybody, as it is harmful to him and the one related. But he doesn’t consider it seriously. One day on a rainy day he met a girl standing helpless near her car and he offered her a lift in his car. She was a trainee cardiologist working in a hospital. Her name is Debjani and fascinated by her simplicity he fall in love with her. Then from there onwards so many undesirable things happend in his life and one of his student herself cheated him and was arrested by police. In order to lead happy life they left Kolkatta to Andaman .But there also the fate was not different. Debjani met an old school mate there and started to avoid Abhijit( he felt so). He become jeleous of them and in an accident her friend died. The story is full of suspence and his lover debjani dies leaving him alone, without fulfilling his most cherished dream.
The film received positive critics mostly. Though started slowly because of lack of publicity it gathered momentum by mouth publicity. Both the hero and heroine performed a praiseworthy attempt and the waves of sentiments made by them will not relieve us soon leavinging the theater. Love and its emotionscape have been drawn out quite rhythmically through the music, cinematography and screenplay. The beauty of Andaman has copied as itself and it is a plus point of the film. But One should not believe that all things in this film is real. It is deeply related to some supersttion and it can be his state of mind. Many events are occurred in a predetermined manner and truly Schmaltz in nature. But it is a fact that it conveys the message of unattainability of one’s most cherished dreams in one’s life.Let us conclude the review with : “Abir's performance as a suspicious lover, who struggles to choose between love and ambition, is top notch. Raima looks beautiful in every frame and the climax where Abir and Raima struggle for love over destiny, is worth a watch. It is sure to bring back the memories of Othello once again. The realization in the end is again a shocker. The film does have its share of loopholes. But then again, Ghosh shows his promise as a debutant director” Hindustan Times.
