Dil Dhadakne Do

Dil Dhadakne Do  (Eng: Let the Heart Beat) is the recently released Bollywood comedy drama film of 2015. Zoya Akhtar produced the film while Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar done the production. The film is rich with its ensemble cast list and it features Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shah, Priyanka chopra, Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma in lead roles. Another specialty of the film is the presence of Amir Khan in this film by his voice. The producer Farhan Akhtar comes to perform a special role in this film.

The story of the film revolves round a dyfuctional Punjabi family who invite their family and friends, on a cruise trip to celebrate the parents 30th wedding anniversary. Kamal Mehra (Anil Kapoor) is a successful business man leaving with his wife, Neelam (Shefali Shah) and two children. His daughter Ayesha (Priyanka Chopra) is married to a guy Manav (Rahul Bose) against her wish and now running a trvel business successfully. His son kabir (Ranveer singh) who desires to become a pilot unwillingly serves his father in business. The relation between kamal and Neelam is also not so bright but completed 30 ‘sucessful’ years so far. They plan to celebrate it in a grand manner and for temporarily they decided to set aside all there disorderliness and invited their friends and family for a trip to Mediterranean. Among their Invitees are Mr. Sood ( parmeet Sethi) and his family. Kamal had a  secret plan to get Kabir married to Sood’s daughter, Noorie (riddhima sood), in exchange for his investing in kamal’s company. But as the trip went on  smoothily true behavior of people came out gradually. Instead of Noorie kabir loved a free-spirited dancer Farah (Anushka Sharma) and Noorie loved the son of Sood’s enemy. And most interestingly, they decided to manipulate their parents into believing that they are dating each other. To make the situation worse, their ‘faithful’ daughter, who was already not in terms with her husnabd find her teenage lover Sunny in the ship. The sweet memories with Sunny convulsed her mind and she develops a soft corner and love towards him. When Kamal know all these he had a heart attack and carried to onship emefgency room. He understood that the situation is going to be grim and slipping from his control. There are many twists in this story and how they solve and unite the family is the climax of the story.

The film received positive reviews from the critics and has taken ground as a good family entertainer. Zoya Akhtar was praised in her directive skills and she proved that she is the “master of dysfunctional selfserving relationships” Though the story is having many subplots she succeeded in connecting each part rationally and logically. But the confusing part is the relation between kamal and Neelam though they are seems to be in good relation, Neelam sometimes planning to divorce with kamal and the reason behind it is not clearly expressed. All other characters in one way other shows their true nature by avoiding or take on some others especially their so called dearones. So it reflects a family relation that is very rare in a family that completed 30 years ‘sucessfully’ and very common in modern families. But the social message it passes through the film, I think is that, the parents should consider their saplings aspirations before compelling them to marry a person as their will. This is the major reason behind the failure of almost all marriages cases. On performance wise Anil kapoor, Ranvir singh, Anuksha Sharma and priyanka chopra are praised and they competitively performed to contribute to the success of the film. I wish to conclude the review with a quote from times of India, which states as : “ On the ship, a few bolts could be tighter. But these are fleeting clouds on an other wise beautiful sea, hosting a cruise… while searching beyond Bollywood’s emotional botox for a family warts- and its heat”.
