Chandrettan Evideya

Chandrettan Evideya (Eng: Chandrettan, Where are you?) is a Malayalam romantic family entertainer of 2015 directed by Sidharth Bharathan. Sameer Tahir with two more others produced the film and it features Dileep, Anusree and Namitha pramod in lead roles. KPAC Lalitha,Mukesh, Soubin Shahir and Suraj Venjarammoodu appears in supporting roles.

This film tells the story of a  suspected wife and she suspects her husband for everything and at every time. Chandramohan (Dileep) and Sushama (Anusree) are married professionals working in two distinct places. One works at the legislative Assembly in the capital city and his wife sushama in Thrissur. Both were living a happy life expect for the habit of suspecting her husband Sushama is a very good wife at heart. She has her reasons to suspect her husband. Chandramohan, an ardent admirer of classical dance and he even apply for many leaves in a month to watch the dance programme. He used to write criticism on classical dance and they are often published in dailies and magazines. As you know many of the classical dancers are women and mainly youngsters he had a close contact with them normally. But all these relations made her wife to doubt him about his faithfulness and an astrologer once they met in a journey added fuel to her doubts and since then she started to watch him with a more suspicious eyes. As a columnist he was famous amoung the classical world and once Geethanjali (Namitha pramod) approached him with special request. Though a doctor by profession, she was also an ardent admirer of classical dance as Chandramohan and she finds him as the suitable man to help her. But the twist of the story strats from here to an unexpected climax and Chandramohan’s relation with Geethanjali made a worse situation in the family relation of their life. Chandramohan found Geethanjali as his wife in previous birth and their close acquaintance cemented the doubts before Sushama. He reacted shoddily for this and it made many problems in their life.

The film received mixed reviews from critics but the film was a hit at the boxoffice. Dileep’s role after a long time finds a difference and his usuall comic numbers are less in this film. But the presence of Sooraj with Soubin compensated the gap and the humour in the film is its saving grace. But the credit for carrying the film goes to Anusree and her brilliant pertormance is actually a treat to the viewers. Her innocent nature and anxiety covets everyone and sometimes it seems it is very easy to swindle her. The Music especially ‘Vasanthamallike’ is an added advantage of the film. Dileep’s extramarital relations and visions of reincarnation of geethanjali as Vasathamallika as his previous wife in his previous birth, all seems a little unrealistic and sometimes moronic. Sidharth bharathan came out of his fathers’ shade in this film but had to go a long way to become a true director. But to conclude I request you to watch the film for Anusree, since she does not like to share his husband with another one and it depicts the mind of a common house wife. I wish to conclude the review by quoting a part from the comments appeared in malayala Manorama, Saying : ‘ The best part of about the film is that it frees Dileep, the actor, from the unrealistic comic stereotypes which have been proving to be suicidal for him for quite sometime now. The film with a strong base on middle-class realism treads the popular narrative line even as it carefully tries to refrain from going after the commercial formula, a genere in which the master-duo Bharathan and Padmarajan and the likes have excelled. Chandrettan Evideya is for those who value familiar bonds, a type which constitutes the majority of movie-goers in this part of the world.’
