Bhaskar The Rascal

Bhaskar The Rascal is a 2015 Malayalam romantic comedy film directed by Siddique. Anto Joseph produced the film under the banner Anto Joseph film Company. The film stars Mommooty and Nayantara in lead roles. This is the first appearance of Nayantara in Malayalam after a long time and after some personal issues and gossips related with a Tamil actor cum dancer. According to boxoffice records the film was a success and after some average films Mammoty got an elevation to his old status as a mega star.

The film is about the attachment of two persons through their children and they find a way to forget their worries they faced in life. Baskaran Pillai (Mammootty, Who is nicknamed as Rascal because of his illtempered nature is the son Sankara Narayanan Pillai (Janardhanan). Sankara Narayanan was once a big business man and he had helped many during his affluent period. Later he lost all in business and  in his financial crisis no one was there to help him. This hurted him very much and Baskaran seeing all these stood behind his father strongly and learned a lesson that without money we attain nothing in life. His main aim in life was to become rich and amass wealth as far as possible. For this he forgot his family and his illtempered nature earns him the name Rascal as a reward. He lost his wife early after the birth of his son, Aadi (Master Sanoop). Sankara Narayanan is always compelling him to marry again and in the middle of daily problems he has no time to even thik of that. But he always find time to entertain his son and once they went for a trip and they come across a person Hima (Nayantara) who was also a widow, having a daughter, Shivani (Baby Anikha) left with her. The children were studying in the same school and that intimacy attracted Aadi towards Hima and he find his lost mummy in Hima. At first Baskar disappointed Aadi and Hima was also a calm and quiet person doing some business of her own after the death of her husband. But the twist of the story starts from here and an eventful but entertaining part of the film is awaited here after. Will they unite accepting eachothers children as their own? Or will the thug behavior of Baskar wipe out all the planning of their children? For answers I request you to watch the film.

The film received many positive reviews and the film attained a name as a good family entertainer. Most of them appreciated the film’s direction, cinematofraphy, music and lead characters. Again in this film Siddique-mammootty combo strikes and Siddique once again proved his direction skill, he knows verywell how to use the star value of Mammooty in a comedy dominated film like this. The presence of the two ‘masters’ Sanoop and Anikha is actually the pleasant scenes in the film and their naughtiness covets everyone and the audience actually wish for a solution for their dilemma. Though the story has some similarities with a few films the director has taken care to avoid monotonous with his skillful direction. The music of the film is correctly merged with the situation and timely amalgamated. I wish to conclude the review with a quote from Sify.com which is as follows: “ A well-oiled, formula family entertainer, not have many surprises in store but is a nice option for sure this festival season. For all fans of the lead stars, this could turn out to be a nice treat. Enjoy this one.”
