Is this when Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan’s Coolie No 1 remake will go on floors?
Buzz is that David Dhawan is all set to recreate the magic of his blockbuster Coolie No 1. It is being said that the remake will feature Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan in the lead roles.
David Dhawan struck gold at the box office with the reboot of Judwaa, and it looks like he is keen on recreating the success with Coolie No 1. A leading daily reports that the filmmaker is planning a remake of Coolie No 1, with Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan stepping into the shoes of Govinda and Karisma Kapoor.
“Varun and Sara will share screen space in the former’s first home production. It will be directed by David Dhawan, who had also helmed the original. This will be the first film to roll out under their banner The One Entertainment. The team wanted a new jodi for the comedy and the Dhawans felt Sara would be apt for it,” a source close to the development revealed. On Karan Johar’s chat show, Sara expressed her desire to work with Varun. She has reiterated the same in several media interactions as well. It looks like her dream is all set to come true, courtesy David Dhawan.
Interestingly, the makers brought Sara on board even before the release of her debut film, Abhishek Kapoor’s Kedarnath. “They were in talks for some time and had approached her even before Kedarnath hit the marquee. The idea is to adapt the original and modernise it,” the insider informed.
Sara is likely to get a meatier role in the remake, than Karisma got in the original. “The makers are changing the character sketch a bit and making it even more prominent in the remake,” the source said.
Varun, who has almost finished shooting for Abhishek Varman’s period drama Kalank, also has Remo D’Souza’s dance film in the pipeline. The actor will work at breakneck speed to wrap up his professional commitments by April, so that he can kick off the Coolie No 1 remake in July. The makers are looking at a festival release in the first half of next year.
