Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor talk about their love story and we bet it will make you CRY

Bollywood has seen some real life love stories that have stood the test of times, but there have also been others that left fans heartbroken. One such love story is that of Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor. Once pitted against each other during their debut in 2007, Ranbir and Deepika started dating a year later. They looked like a match made in heaven. However, eight years later, fans were shocked when this adorable duo called off their relationship. While many have been speculating about the real reason behind Ranbir-Deepika’s much talked about breakup, buzz was that the Padmavati actress had caught her beau red handed with another woman. There were also reports that hinted that while Deepika wanted to get hitched, Ranbir wasn’t ready and then there were talks of how Neetu Kapoor, Ranbir’s mommy, wasn’t very fond of her son’s actress girlfriend and that had caused tension in their relationship. Many even speculated that Katrina Kaif was the reason behind RK Jr and Deepika’s separation. While both the parties have refrained from discussing their split, the very-much-in-love pair had once narrated how their love story began. Here are the excerpts from the People Magazine interview that was published way back in 2008…

Heard of RK Jr?

Deepika, in this candid chat, revealed how she got to hear about Ranbir. She said, “When we were shooting for our respective debut films (Om Shanti Om and Saawariya) we had just heard about each other. We had common makeup artists, Bharat and Dorris. Dorris is really fond of us, and she told me that he Ranbir is a really sweet guy and we should meet up.”

The first meeting…

Deepika reminisced her first encounter with the Kapoor lad and said, “Dorris had once called him when she was with me. She said, ‘Why don’t you guys talk?’ That’s when we first spoke and exchanged numbers.”

A Date Night

“A few days later, almost around the same time (July 2007), he asked me out for lunch. He came and picked me up and we went to Celini at Grand Hyatt (Mumbai) for lunch,” said Deepika.

Ranbir added, “We just happened to spend the day together.” And Deepika revealed, “It was meant to be only lunch; but lunch became coffee; coffee became cheesecake; and cheesecake became movie.”

A night to remember

What was sweet about the lovers’ candid confession were the details. Ranbir remembered every little detail. He said, “Mr Bean’s Holiday is the movie we watched at PVR Cinemas in Juhu.” And the Dragon hero might score extra brownies from the ladies for actually knowing details of his date’s attire. He said, “I clearly remember she was wearing a white ganji and white linen pants. She had her hair tied up in a bun.”

Deepika, on the other hand, seemed to have a problem with Ranbir’s shoes. She said, “I don’t remember really. He was wearing layered clothes: a T-shirt and a half sleeve shirt on top of it. Oh, how can I forget the ugly shoes that he had worn? What are those shoes called?” Ranbir helped her out and said, “Timberland.”

But for Deepika the time they spent was more memorable. She added, “That (the date) didn’t end there. It became a long drive and then he dropped me home. We started seeing each other on February 23, 2008.”

And love for this couple was…

Well, for Ranbir it was obviously about wearing his favourite pair of shoes in his ladylove’s absence. Here’s what they had to say:

Deepika: Now he has changed, he wears these really cool shoes. But at that point the couple of times we met he wore this pair of ugly shoes. I remember complaining about the shoes to him then.

Ranbir: I only wear them now when she is out of town. But they are a favourite pair of shoes.

But looks like some love stories are not meant to be. We bet that everybody who rooted for the couple CRIED on finding this interview again almost a decade later too.
