Aamir Khan vs Mohanlal: Whose Mahabharata will go on floors first?
SS Rajamouli’s celebrated magnum opus, Baahubali, has clearly opened doors for bigger and better period films. The fear of taking on a larger than life film, that boasts of an astronomical budget, no longer exists. Directors and actors are ready to invest time in such mega projects. The latest magnum opus that has become a topic of discussion is the renowned Mahabharata. The mythological story, that we have all grown up on, is being looked at with a new-found interest by filmmakers, productions houses and actors. Interestingly, two versions are in discussion already. Both promise to be mega budget movies, starring superstars. We are talking about Mohanlal and Aamir Khan‘s versions. Randamoozham with Mohanlal – The Malayalam superstar has confirmed the making of Mahabharata, based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s book – Randamoozham. The film will be narrated from Bheem’s perspective and his role will be taken on by Mohanlal. An UAE-based businessman has announced that he will invest Rs 1000 crore in the project. The film will be helmed by Srikumar Menon and the screenplay has been written by the book’s writer. The film is expected to be made in two parts. The movie is expected to go on floors this year. The movie will release in 2019, and 90 days after the first part’s release, Part 2 will hit theatres. The film will release in multiple languages.
Mahabharata with Aamir Khan – If reports are to be believed, Aamir Khan is set to come aboard a film on Mahabharata after Thugs of Hindostan. Reportedly Mukesh Ambani will co-produce the film. The epic drama is expected to be made on a budget of Rs 1000 crore. The film will be made on the lines of a series like Game Of Thrones or Lord Of The Rings. On countless occasions, the actor has expressed his dream to make Mahabharata. “My dream project is to make the Mahabharata but I’m afraid of starting the project as I know it will consume at least 15-20 years of my life. My favourite character is Karna, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to play him due to my physique. I may just have to play Krishna,” revealed the actor.
