Salman to Priyanka, this is how B-Town reacted to Tanushree-Nana controversy
While several Bollywood celebrities came out in support of Tanushree Dutta, others chose to not comment on the issue.
Bollywood has been rocked by shocking allegations against veteran actor Nana Patekar. Tanushree Dutta has accused him of sexual misconduct on the sets of the 2008 film Horn Ok Pleassss. Apparently, Nana’s unwanted advances during the shoot of a special number for the film made Tanushree so uncomfortable that she had to opt out.
When Tanushree first levelled the allegations against Nana, it was a decade ago. At the time, she was met with a stoic silence from Bollywood. However, this time around, several celebrities have rallied behind her in support.
Farhan Akhtar expressed solidarity with her and tweeted, “Even when #TanushreeDutta had career concerns to keep quiet 10 years ago she did not & her story hasn’t changed now. Her courage should be admired, not her intention questioned.”
Priyanka Chopra agreed with her The Sky Is Pink co-star and wrote, “Agreed..the world needs to #BelieveSurvivors”.
Twinkle Khanna also came out in support of Tanushree and wrote, “A working environment without harassment and intimidation is a fundamental right and by speaking up this brave woman helps pave the way towards that very goal for all of us!”
Richa Chadha and Swara Bhasker also hailed Tanushree for having the courage to speak out against her harasser.
However, every celebrity was not so forthright with their response. At the trailer launch of Thugs Of Hindostan, Amitabh Bachchan refused to talk about the issue. “Na toh mera naam Tanushree Dutta hai aur na hi Nana Patekar,” was all he was willing to say.
Meanwhile, Aamir Khan said, “Well, I think without knowing the veracity of something, or the details of something, I don’t think I can comment on it. It’s not right for me… But I would like to say that, whenever something like this does happen, it’s a really sad thing. Now whether this has happened, that is for people to investigate. I don’t think we can comment on it.”
When India Today reporter Shivangi Thakur asked Salman Khan about Tanushree’s allegations, he said that he was “not aware” of any such thing. “I’m not aware of this, my dear. Let me know and understand what is happening… If we see what is going on, I am not aware of what you are talking about,” he said.
