2017 is almost nearing its end and 2018 already seems extremely promising for Bollywood. Some very huge movies have been announced for the coming year. On the other hand, few films have had a shift in their release dates. Some have decided to change their release timings because their films aren’t ready while one (Padmavati) has been at the receiving end of severe political backlash.
Here are 5 films who have changed their release date already!
Padmavati
Original Release Date: 1 December 2017
New Date of Release: Not finalised
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Padmavati starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in leading roles, was undoubtedly one of the most talked movies of the year. But now, the film’s release is uncertain as the makers have voluntarily deferred the release date themselves. Padmavati was previously scheduled to be released on 1st December 2017. But a severe backlash from fringe communities and political parties pushed the film ahead. The makers have been under stress because they are facing legal issues now. The movie has been deferred from its release date and now the makers and the audience are also waiting eagerly for its release. While many have claimed that Padmavati might hit screens only next year in February, the new date of release is expected to be announced soon.
Firangi
Original Release Date: 24 December 2017
New Date of Release: 1 December 2017
Firangi is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language period action-comedy drama film set in the year 1920. It is directed by Rajiev Dhingra and stars ace comedian Kapil Sharma, who is also the producer. The film was previously planned to release on 24th November 2017 and now it is postponed and will release on 1st December 2017. According to sources in the CBFC, the film is yet to be certified and thus the change in its release date. “We were hoping to get our censor certificate early this week. Now we’re told the censor certificate will be given to us on November 23, a day before our release date. How can we release the film under such uncertainty? My friend Kapil Sharma, my Mumbai distributor Anil Thadani, and I have decided not to release this Friday,” the director Rajiev Dhingra said.
Fukrey Returns

Fukrey Returns is a sequel to the hit Indian buddy comedy film Fukrey that hit screens four years back. The second installment is directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba and produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani., Initially, the plan was to release the film on 15 December 2017 but after Padmavati deferred its release, the makers decide to prepone the release to 8th December 2017. The poster of the release date recently showcases a snake which has curled himself up in the form of number 8, indicating the release date of the movie.
Monsoon Shootout
Original Release Date: 15 December 2017
New Date of Release: 8 December 2017
After being on the back-burner for almost three years, versatile actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer Monsoon Shootout finally is scheduled to release this December. While Nawaz has hooked the audience with his skinhead and grim look, his performance in the trailer has been applauded. Now we hear that the makers have decided to prepone the release date to December 8, 2017 from December 15, 2017. Guess Padmavati’s loss has become a huge gain for several smaller films.
PadMan
Original Release Date: 13 April 2018
New Date of Release: 26 January 2018
Ever since Akshay Kumar announced the release date of his upcoming movie PadMan, there was unrest among fans. Actually, Padman which was supposed to release on April 13, 2018 is now releasing on 26th January 2018, (Republic Day). Akshay has done it in the past when he had booked Independence Day 2017 for Crack but eventually released Toilet- Ek Prem Katha which was ready. Now, with 2.0 pushed ahead, he didn’t want to lose out on the holiday date. Hence, he and the makers of PadMan decided to come with their film on the same day instead. So the makers have mutually interchanged their dates.
2.O
Original Release Date: 25 January 2018
New Date of Release: 13 April 2018
The sequel to Robot (2010), which stars Rajinikanth, Amy Jackson and Akshay Kumar, was supposed to have been out on January 25, 2018. The possibility of two high-profile films, PadMan & 2.O both featuring the same actor, seemed unlikely. Moreover, 2.0 needs a lot more time for its heavy VFX and CGI work to be processed. Tweets by Tamil industry suggest that the release date for 2.0 is now April 13, 2018. This means that producer Lyca Productions has enough time to wrap up its visual effects and deliver the film in 3D, as promised.
Now we have to see how these releases affect the whole calendar for the coming year!
