‘Padmavati’ controversy forcing Ranveer Singh to stay away?

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming film ‘Padmavti’ has stirred up a storm before its release on 1st December. The film that has been mired in controversies since its commencement has been facing a lot of opposition from fringe groups and even political groups. Amidst the threats and vandalism, the film’s lead stars Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor along with several other Bollywood stars including Salman Khan, have lent their support to the director.

However, there has been no sign of Ranveer Singh during this crossfire. The actor, who plays the antagonist Sultan Alauddin Khilji, will reportedly be maintaining a low profile as the film gets ready for its release in a few days. Bhansali reportedly had elaborate plans to promote the film with his three stars but chose otherwise in the wake of the mounting tension.

The makers reportedly have no intention of rubbing people the wrong way by calling out their antagonist to promote the film, especially after the attention he drew with his posters and trailer. The Bollywood live wire was also reportedly asked to maintain a distance from his rumoured lady love – Deepika, as allegations of their two characters coming together on-screen created quite the controversy itself.

Apart from a theatre in Kota being vandalised and ‘Padmavati’ posters being torn in other parts of the country, a few distributors are now vowing to ban the film by not screening it.
