Aamir Khan’s son Junaid to debut with Quasar Padamsee’s upcoming play
Junaid will be making his stage debut with an adaptation of Bertolt Brecht’s play Mother Courage and Her Children.
Superstar Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan, who is armed with a degree in theatrics, is all set to make his stage debut with noted director Quasar Thakore Padamsee’s play ‘Mother Courage and Her Children’- an adaptation of Bertolt Brecht’s play by the same name.
The young, aspiring actor called Padamsee some two months back and went for the open casting call without really revealing his real identity to anyone. Talking about the casting process, Padamasee told a tabloid, “It was an open casting call and someone had given him my number. When he came, I thought he was just another kid from HR College. He said he had been to drama school and seemed to understand the play and had lovely ideas.”
The director sees the reflection of his megastar father in Junaid, who, he feels, is an ‘enterprising actor’. “He is a very giving actor, so his co-actors gain a lot from him. He cares a lot about the whole production and not just his own part, and is constantly contributing and working on all aspects. You want people to come in excited and rehearse for 8 to 10 hours. And Junaid was happy to come in early or stay late, even if it was not for his own part.”
After graduating from HR College, Khan Jr shifted to Los Angeles to purse a degree at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Later, he assisted Rajkumar Hirani in ‘PK’.
In ‘Mother Courage and Her Children’ which is based on the idiocy of war, Junaid plays various characters, one of them being Mother Courage’s son Swameed, a virtuous man who is led down by his own naivety. The play will be staged at National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) on August 19 and 20 and also at St. Andrews Auditorium on September 9 and 10.
